Increasingly, modern science is recognising that our physical and emotional/mental health are connected. Many of us already know this from our own experience. Sadness, for example, will depress your immune system, affect your posture, and change base metabolic rate.

Case Study

John came in complaining of fogginess in his head. He found it difficult to concentrate in many situations: in class, socialising with his friends. He also found it difficult to retain any information he read.

Michelle found that there were several factors in John’s complaint. Firstly, she identified that John was dairy intolerant… and drinking 2 litres of milk a day (John was really into his milk). Muscle testing indicated that this was affecting mental and physical function in many ways.

John had previously taken medical tests for lactose intolerance. Lactose is a component of milk. Interestingly, these tests showed that he was not lactose intolerant. On Michelle’s advice, he eliminated dairy from his diet and started noticing significant improvements within 10 days. (When he had some yoghurt two months later, his body rebelled against the dairy and he had severe diarrhoea and the fogginess returned for a few days. He stayed off dairy after that.)

Simultaneously, Michelle identified and worked with contributing emotional and psychological factors. John grew up with a verbally and emotionally abusive father. Now an adult, John was still carrying the effects of this abuse from his childhood. Muscle testing showed that John’s low self-esteem was affecting brain function, his learning in class, and also his interaction with people.

When Michelle gave John this insight, he felt greatly relieved: “It’s not that the real me is inadequate.” Michelle then worked with John to change the way he felt, releasing the stress of the past abuse, and gaining new sense of self-worth.

Within a month, the fogginess in his head had completely cleared. John continued with his tertiary studies and found people interactions easier and more comfortable.
